In 1966, at the age of five, my dream was to become a drummer. My family was lucky enough to find Russ Moy, who became my teacher and mentor from 1966 to 1976. I was fortunate enough that Russ did not only teach me how to play, but through his clinics, he brought me into contact with some of the best drummers in the world. This combination inspired me to realize that I could achieve my dream. I owe a world of thanks to Russ for the teacher and person that he is. Because of his influence, I have gone on to play with some very well known musicians. I am currently playing, teaching and most importantly, learning.

Forever grateful,

David Eckert

HI, YOU PROBABLY DON’T REMEMBER ME, BUT I TOOK LESSONS FROM YOU FOR A FEW YEARS IN ELIZABETH, WHEN YOUR STUDIO WAS PART OF YOUR HOUSE. I WAS A TEENAGER WITH LONG DARK BLOND HAIR. I PLAYED DRUMS FOR AN ALL FEMALE “NEW WAVE” GROUP IN MY EARLY 20’S, THEN STOPPED PLAYING EXCEPT FOR JUST PLAYING FOR FUN IN THE BASEMENT. NOW I AM 46 YEARS OLD AND MARRIED WITH A YOUNG DAUGHTER. I HOPE TO TEACH HER THE BASICS WHEN SHE IS OLD ENOUGH TO LEARN, AND I HAVE 2 DRUMSETS IN MY BASEMENT TO DO IT. GLAD TO HEAR YOU ARE DOING WELL. MY NAME WAS MARILYN O’CONNOR.

Hey kiddies! Russ is a great teacher. He’s a buddy to me and I’ve learned so much and gotten so many places (in bands, tryouts, etc) with the help of his teaching. After playing for only a year with him, I’d say I’ve made so much progress with more to come. Thanks, Russ!

Russ – Glad to hear you were asking about me upon running into my father recently. The website is fantastic! To all prospective students viewing this site-please read on. Russ was the main force in developing me as a 3-time high school All-State drummer (jazz and symphonic). Sight-reading became second nature thanks to the multitude of music I was exposed to. Encouragement to succeed (4-5 hrs/day practice after school!) gave me the confidence all young, aspiring musicians need. Keep up the fine educational tradition and hope to catch you soon at a clinic! I was lucky enough to take lessons with Russ Moy for almost two years in the early 90’s. I came to him frustrated and tired of my playing. He worked with my weaknesses and turned them into strengths with vigorous practice pad technique building workouts and constant encouragement. He tought me how to practice and keeps my skills sharp. He is a true teacher, he knows all and can do all. There is nothing that can’t be learned from him about drumming. Thanks Russ! You are the greatest!
